Grand Theft Auto 6 is introducing a dynamic morality mechanic known as the "Criminal Profile," tracking player behavior on a spectrum running from "Professional" to "Irredeemable."

According to details shared by Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson in an interview with Edge magazine, the system monitors how protagonists Jason and Lucia execute their crimes across Leonida. Represented in interface elements by angel and devil icons, the meter evolves Red Dead Redemption 2's honor system into a framework tailored around modern organized crime and street-level heists.

Rather than forcing players into strict lawfulness or punishing standard open-world chaos, the profile primarily gauges restraint and excessive violence. Players who choose non-lethal takedowns, incapacitate adversaries, or rely on intimidation and bribery maintain a cleaner, more disciplined reputation. Conversely, unprovoked killing sprees and reckless civilian casualties push the rating toward the irredeemable threshold.

Nelson explained that the mechanic aims to ground protagonists within the setting, preventing them from feeling all-powerful and disconnected from consequences. As noted in earlier discussions referenced by an IGN preview, consistent conduct directly dictates how local residents, law enforcement, and criminal factions respond to the duo in public spaces.

Crucially, Rockstar confirmed that a player's Criminal Profile will influence narrative progression and alter story outcomes. While major illicit jobs remain central to the plot regardless of standing, maintaining a professional standard or descending into unhinged mayhem will guide players toward distinct story branches and specific endings.
